Former Blythe mayor, Warren C. Miller, passes away
Special to the Times
BLYTHE -Former Blythe mayor and school board member Warren C. Miller, passed away on Feb. 20, 2013.
Miller came to Blythe after graduating from the University of Southern California (USC), and working as a public accountant in the Los Angeles area. He and Benny Alexander opened the doors to an accounting office named Alexander and Miller in 1948.
Miller met Verna Dekens through her father, Sarhas, in 1952. They were married two years later, eventually having four children.
During WWII, Miller served the country as a sergeant and he was stationed in Europe as a weather forecaster. He continued his civic duties in Blythe by being involved in the community. He served Blythe as the mayor in the early 1960s and he was also a board member of the Palo Verde Unified School District for many years.
Miller was also active in the local Lion's Club and Knights of Columbus.
In the mid-'60s, Miller saw a great need for another community park in Blythe. His daughter Cindy remembered going with her father on weekends to water the few trees he planted in the vacant lot on 14th Ave. and Lovekin Blvd. This was the beginning of the park that now bears his name, Miller Park.
Miller loved Blythe and all it had to offer. He enjoyed life with family and friends, which included boating, hunting, fishing, local sporting events, and daily coffee breaks with his local businessmen/friends. Miller took great pride in supporting the city of Blythe.
Miller was born in Hammond, Ind. on May 20, 1920, to the late Clemens and Elizabeth (Demerling) Miller. He and his family moved to Alhambra, Calif. at the age of 4. Graduating from Alhambra High School, he served in the U.S. Army. It was after he left the Army that he went to USC. Miller and Verna retired to Sun City West, Ariz. in 1986, where they resided for 26 years, before recently moving to Rancho Benardo, Calif., where he died.
Warren is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Verna, brother, Tom Miller; children, Anna (Bob) Cieslinski, Thomas Miller, Cindy (Walt) Buechele, Matt (Lisa) Miller; grandchildren, Mark and Catherine Cieslinski, Walter and Andrew Buechele, Madison and Hannah Miller. He is predeceased in death by his father, Clemens Miller (1889-1969) and mother, Elizabeth Miller (1893-1988).
Graveside services will take place at Palo Verde Cemetery in Blythe, on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to: Friends of Palo Verde Cemetery in C/O Susie Forrest at 9330 4th Avenue, Blythe, CA 92225 or City of Blythe Parks and Recreations at 325 N. Broadway, Blythe, CA 92225.

Thank you Mr.Evans for your kind words. I thought it to be very respectful that you attended the services. It's truely ashame that other city officials did not.

Dear Miller family.
On behalf of my wife, children and I, we would like to express our deepest sympathy for the loss of a great man and a wonderful soul who is now in heaven. Warren was a man of great vision, compassion, and dedication for our beloved town. He’s a patriot that will never be forgotten.
Thank you for caring.
