Special to the Times
BLYTHE - Blythe resident Paul Hartman, a driver with Con-way Freight in Blythe since 1991, has achieved two million consecutive safe miles driving. He becomes the 192nd driver in the company's history to achieve this milestone. There are approximately 15,000 drivers at Con-way Freight nationwide. A celebration was held at the Blythe facility in Paul's honor on Feb. 12, which was attended by his family as well as many Con-way employees and well wishers from Con-way's corporate offices in Michigan. Hartman said " You have to be completely defensive at all times, allowing yourself plenty of space for potential mistakes that can have bad results. That, along with a lot of luck along the way, will get you to this point in a driver's career.
Hartman achieved 1 million miles in 2004, and runs daily from the Blythe facility to various points including Flagstaff, Tucson, Las Vegas, Kingman as well as the Los Angeles basin. In the photo from left: Jim Lutze, regional director of Operations, Hartman and Neil Smith, area vice president.
