BLYTHE - Michelle Becerril, 44, of Blythe, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after she backed her car into a handicap parking spot at Palo Verde High School and failed to stop on Dec 13.

The car hit the handicap sign, jumped the curb, accelerated and collided with a fence rail causing the Honda to stop. The car narrowly missed crashing into the office.

CHP-Blythe area handled the investigation and when they approached Becerril she appeared to have signs and symptoms of being intoxicated.

The accident is still under investigation by CHP; however, it is believed that prescription drugs were a key factor in the accident.

This is a hard one. Yes she should have known. But there is a lot of prescription drugs out there that are none narcotic. That have side affects. But sometimes it takes time for the side affects to appear. Some people do not have the luxury to hire a chauffeur or to wait to know all of the side affects. It's not as she was at the bar drinking and then decided to drive to school and do her business there. Yes she is responsible for her actions here. But not at the leavel as a drunk driver or a street drug user. In court she will pay more than her fair share. Because she will be labeled as a DWI no matter what the circumstances were.
