BLYTHE - Kaitlyn Heywood was introduced by to the Palo Verde Unified School District Board of Trustees as the district's December 2012 Student of the Month.

The daughter of Nathan and Nicole Heywood of Blythe, Heywood is a fifth grader at Ruth Brown Elementary School. She was nominated for Student of the Month by her teacher, Stephanie Romero, with full support from her fourth grade teacher, Betty Miller.

"Kaitlyn has outstanding grades and has scored advanced on the CST for Language Arts and math, achieving perfect scores on six of the 11 content areas," said Principal Lois Shaffer. "Kaitlyn is the historian for Ruth Brown's National Elementary Honor Society. She was a winner at the Ruth Brown Science Fair last year and got second place at the district science fair. "

Adding to Heywood's accomplishments, she recently won an art competition at Joe Wine Blythe Recreation Center, winning a blue bike.

"Kaitlyn has excellent behavior in class and on the playground," said Shaffer.

In her spare time, Heywood plays the piano, is on the swim team and likes to travel with her family. "They backpacked 22 miles through Havasupai, Ariz., in October, on a three-day trip, and they are going to Hawaii over winter break," added Shaffer.

Heywood has one older brother, Joshua, who attends Blythe Middle School; a younger brother, Tyler, who is a student at Ruth Brown; and younger sister Ava is a kindergartner in the transitional class at Margaret White Elementary.

"Ruth Brown School is proud to present Kaitlyn Heywood as the elementary district Student of the Month for December 2012," said Shaffer.
