Hyduke appointed to college board
Special to the Times

BLYTHE - Palo Verde Community College Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Ned William Hyduke II as the provisional appointee on the board. After an arduous interview process consisting of questions from college stakeholders (California Teachers Association, California School Employees Association, students, Academic Senate, and board members) Hyduke took the oath of office on Oct. 16.

Hyduke assumes the seat that was vacated by Samuel Burton on Aug. 28 and he will be on the board until Nov. 4, 2014, the end of Burton's term.

Hyduke retired from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department as a lieutenant in 2011. He began his 30-year law enforcement career with the Blythe Police Department in 1981 after completing a two-year Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints mission in London, England. As a member of Blythe Police Department, he served as a patrol officer and detective. He also was employed with the Imperial County Sheriff's Department as a deputy sheriff from 1986-1992.

A Palo Verde Valley native and a graduate of Palo Verde High School, Hyduke took courses at Palo Verde College and earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Park University when it was associated with Palo Verde College. Hyduke received a Master's degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Boston in January 2011.

From 2005 to 2012, Hyduke was a part-time criminal justice instructor at Palo Verde College's main campus.

Hyduke has also been active in the community, serving as Bishopric for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; Merit Badge Counselor for the Boy Scouts of America; and is a member of Blythe Search and Rescue.

"I feel I will be an asset to the college district because of my years in the community, background and experience," said Hyduke. "My understanding of the Palo Verde [College] Mission is to provide a quality learning environment for all students; to ensure that all students are treated fairly.

Palo Verde College Board of Trustees President Ed Gonzales said," We are happy to have Ned join the board. We have a full board again. We are pleased to have him."

Hyduke will join Gonzales and board members Millie Rodriguez, Jerry Lewis, Lincoln Edmond, Ted Arneson and Dr. George Thomas, as well as Student Trustee Frannie Gregory.

Mr.Hyduke was my Criminal Justice instructor a few years ago when I was still residing in Blythe. A very competent person in the Criminal Justice field. Mr. Hyduke, I remember you as a very down to earth instructor. I wish you the best in your future endevours (e-n-de-v...?. I think that's the right spelling.
