Blythe pair charged with murder and robbery
Special to the Times

A Blythe man and woman were charged Thursday with the robbery and murder of Henry James Holmes, 67, of Blythe, last Tuesday in Mesa Verde.

Michael Reed McBeth, a 23-year-old Blythe transient and his girlfriend, Aretha Tashawn Lidy, 20, also of Blythe, were arrested after investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Colorado River Station and the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation and recognized the two in a surveillance video.

In the early evening of Aug. 7, deputies responded to a reported "man down" call in the 14000 block of Orange Drive, in the Mesa Verde area. The body of a male, later identified as Holmes was found at the location. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the area was secured.

Investigators located McBeth and Lidy at an apartment complex in the 400 block of N. Palm in Blythe. They were brought in for questioning and at the conclusion of the interview, they were both arrested and booked into the Blythe jail on the robbery and murder charges.

This is an ongoing investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Investigator Ricardo Espinoza of the Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit at (760) 393-3500, or Investigator Juan Espinoza of the Colorado River Station at (760) 921-7900. You may also submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP.

. I only knew you as the James that played poker at Bruce's, and never knew how you deticated your life to serving our country. But all in all... You were one of the nicest people I knew, and I enjoyed the conversations that were struck up around the poker table with you. You didn't deserve to go out like this. You will be truly missed.

I hope someone at the jail would take Mr.Holmes obituary and stick it in the two faces of the one's that did this and make them read over and over...Question their feelings about the murder of this poor man..What a sad sad thing..I hope the court will give them what's due to them...

How can the PVVT protect these fine, honest, hardworking, (deleted) rights? Comment Deleted... Comment Deleted... Comment Deleted... Maybe you shouldn't cover the story if you can't handle the backlash from it?

I disagree with AJ CRAIG. I believe our tax dollars to feed, house, clothe, school and provide great medical/dental treatment for the rest of thier sorry @#$ lives is WAY too good for them. They are worth a trip to Yellowmart to buy (I wouldn't mind my tax dollars going toward this) a few 9mm shells to take care of them. They don't deserve to breathe the same air as we do! God Bless the Family and friends. And God bless you Henry for fighting for our freedom.

Death is to good for them, live to rot in prison & remember you killed a hero to keep you safe. Henry was like family, his humor an happy disposition will be missed. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord
