Car goes through home

Assistant Editor

BLYTHE - A 91-year-old man drove though a vacant house in the 200 block of S. Spring Street the morning of Dec. 18.

Blythe Police officers arrived at the scene to find an SUV that had been driven inside of the empty residence.

Cpl. Troy Fabanich and other officers found the driver, Jesus Martin, of Blythe, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, to not have any life threatening injuries.

Blythe Fire Department was also dispatched to help with the possible extrication of Martin from the vehicle.

Martin was transported by Blythe Ambulance to Desert Center, where he was flown to Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs for further treatment.

His medical status is unknown at this time.

The resident of the home arrived and confirmed that no one was home at the time of the accident.

Fabanich conducted an investigation and determined that Martin was westbound on E. Dekema approaching Broadway at an unknown speed.

Martin continued through the intersection and struck the southeast curb and stop sign at Broadway.

Martin continued westbound through the chain link fence, which runs parallel to the I-10 Freeway for about 90 feet, and re-entered Dekema crossing the street then striking the chain link fence surrounding the residence.

After striking the fence, Martin's vehicle struck the south exterior wall of the residence, coming to rest just inside the residence. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Was he really 91 years old....? YES! But the reason behind it makes sense. He was planning to purchase that home for his siblings but his son continued to cry over the home not having a garage. So.. being a good dad , he took a new car for a test spin and "BAM" a new garage door. Smart man....NO, Silly goose....Yes.

"The cause of the accident is still under investigation". come on, the cause of the accident is the 91 year old driver. he probably hit the gas instead of the breaks. Glad to hear there were no serious injuries.
