BLYTHE - Richard "Blade" Phipps produced the 35th Annual Blade Classic sponsored by Budweiser that seen 11 men teams and three women teams from Blythe, Brawley, Indio, Riverside, and Parker batted and fielded. All the proceeds from this year's event went to the Blythe Recreation Center.
Men's event
For two days, six Blythe teams, two Parker teams (Just 4 Fun and El Sarape), and one team each from Brawley (TNT), Riverside (Brew Crew) and Indio (Red-Dr. Clark) came up to bat and attempted to best the next team over two days, Saturday and Sunday in the double-elimination tournament.
In the semi-finals round, Deez Nuts beat Extreme Auto Body causing the beaten team to have to win the next three games to stay in the tournament. Extreme Auto Body won against Red-Dr. Clark, who ended in third place, to advance out of the loser's bracket and into the championship round. Extreme Auto Body met back up with Deez Nuts in a championship battle that saw Deez Nuts fall to two games, crowning Extreme Auto Body 35th Annual Blade Classic Men Champions.
Women's event
The three women's teams were all from Blythe and began Saturday at Todd Park. After Bud Girls-Systematic Pest Control (third place) dropped two games back-to-back, Dream Girls and Frye Chapel-VanderPol Hay met in the Championship round.
Dream Girls, coming out of the loser's bracket, won the first game in extra innings, forcing a second game in the double-elimination tourney.
Frye Chapel-VanderPol Hay came back in game two of the championship round winning the tournament 9-4.

What happened to the BBH's or Blowin In the Winds? They're not mentioned in the article. Were they butted out of the running?
