BLYTHE - A come from behind victory in front of a home town crowd was the scene for the Palo Verde Lady Yellow Jackets' first league win of 2009. After going without a victory on the road facing Southwest, Imperial, Holtville and Calexico, PV fought hard to come back from a first game loss to win three games in a row and take the match against the Central High School Lady Spartans from El Centro.
Led by hard-hitting Mayra Luna and Kaelin Sprawls and some terrific defensive rallies, the Green and Gold scrapped hard, keeping the ball in play, forcing Central's Lady Spartans to make costly errors. For Palo Verde, this game was a defensive jewel. Courtney Ploesch and her teammates dug some well hit and well placed spikes, getting the ball to setter Yesenia Keller, who set the Lady Jacket offense.
In the last few home outings, the PV Lady Yellow Jackets had difficulty getting their serves in play. With rally scoring, a blotched serve is too costly. Against Central, PV's serves were right on the money. Having no foot faults and few service errors were two keys to this first league victory.
