BLYTHE - Are you a local stay-at-home mom who is always looking for places to visit or a play group for your tyke?
There is a possible answer for you in the form of Desert Fun Playgroup, which is made up of mostly stay-at-home moms with children under the age of 5.
The group was formed a couple of years ago as a way to get out of the house and socialize with other children and moms in an educational and fun way. The group has toured the Blythe Police Department, the city of Blythe and the county fire departments.
They have been welcomed at Peach Blossom Ranch, Van Dyke Farms, Albertsons, Palo Verde Valley District Library, the post office and B&B Bait.
At each of the locations, the tour guides had various activities planned for the kids. The kids and moms seemed to enjoy the visits and the learning.
The playgroup, which is not affiliated with any organization, also finds the time to plan trips to the park or when the weather may not be accommodating, play at the indoor playgrounds located on Lovekin Blvd.
Children and moms have even found time to hold themed parties such as the Ice Cream Party (we know what was served); Movie Day (popcorn anyone?) and a Fall Celebration where the kids learned about why leaves change colors and fall from the trees (not to mention the fall decorated cupcakes that were eaten), to name a few.
In the warmer months, the moms took turns to host a water day where the children got wet and wild.
More recently, Desert Fun Playgroup, went caroling at the Blythe Nursing Care Center.
After singing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "Jesus Loves Me" and "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" with piano accompaniment for the residents, the children handed out homemade foam gingerbread man ornaments that had been constructed on a previous play date.
The Desert Fun Playgroup is a welcome and open group to moms and children 5 and under, who, like many of the members, are seeking creative and resourceful ways to explore and get to know Blythe and other parents and children who live in similar environments.

It's about time! I am from a big city and have been looking for something like this for a while...I believe mom's need to get out of the house and socialize, because only mom's can understand what another mom is going through and to have an adult conversation. =-)

My babies are 28 & 30, a little too old, but the group sounds great! Way to go moms!
