BLYTHE -Artwork by Blythe artist Jose Gaxiola is featured in an exhibit at Palo Verde College.
The exhibit is located in the college's Harry A. Faull Library at the Blythe campus. It will remain on display through mid-November.
Theme for the paintings is "trees," which are portrayed in a colorful, abstract form on eight large canvases.
A native Californian, Gaxiola was born and raised in Imperial County. After high school he began college at Imperial Valley College and continued his education at University of California, Santa Barbara.
Gaxiola describes himself as being "an artist my whole life, primarily painting, drawing and glazing."
Not all his adult life has been involved with art. He managed a "high end women's contemporary clothing store" in Los Angeles and headed a public relations department that worked with all fashion publications.
About 15 years ago Gaxiola became involved with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's Arts in Corrections program as a contract artist. He joined the program on a full-time basis 11 years ago as an Institution Artist Facilitator (IAF) at Chuckawalla Valley State prison.
Since moving to Blythe, Gaxiola also maintains a local studio.
Library hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The library is located on the second floor of the John O. Crain College Services Building.
